Upcoming Events

National School Counseling Week

National School Counseling Week 2012 will be celebrated from February 6-10 to focus public attention on the unique contributions of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by The American School Counselor Association (ASCA), highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for college and careers. Every day, school counselors work with students, families, and staff to address the academic, personal, social, and college and career needs of all students.

Fairfax County Public School employs over 600 school counseling professionals including school counselors, Directors of Student Services, and Career Center Specialists.  School counselors must have earned at least a master’s degree in school counseling and maintain Virginia state school counselor certification. The mission of FCPS school counseling is to provide a data-driven comprehensive model which maximizes the academic achievement of all students and promotes the necessary skills, attitudes, and beliefs for all students to graduate prepared to effectively manage future challenges in a 21st century society. School counselors empower students to become independent and productive individuals through a developmentally age-appropriate program addressing academic, social, emotional, and college and career counseling services. National School Counseling Week is an ideal time to recognize school counseling professionals and their contributions to student success.
