Fine Arts Curriculum
  Art Kindergarten

The visual art curriculum for Kindergarten introduces concepts and processes that nurture creative thinking and problem solving. Students are taught how to use a variety of strategies to develop ideas and to plan for artmaking. They are exposed to the world of art through the introduction of recognized artworks and artists. At the same time, they are given artmaking opportunities to explore a range of subject matter that relates to the self and their sense of place. Students learn safe and appropriate media process steps as they begin to develop skills in working with a variety of art materials and tools. They participate in child centered experiences that allow them to construct knowledge through exploration, observation, discussion, reflection and production. Emphasis is placed on helping students begin to understand the value of the visual arts to society by integrating concepts and skills into a whole learning experience.
