Testing and Identification Timeline

School-Based Advanced Academic Services (Level II and III)

All decisions regarding advanced academic school-based services are made at the local school. Parents/guardians who would like their child considered for school-based services should submit an AAP School-Based (Level III) Referral Form to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher at the local school. Students must be attending FCPS in order to be considered for advanced academic school-based services. 

Full-Time Advanced Academic Placement (Level IV)

All decisions regarding full-time placement in advanced academic programs are made by a central selection committee. Based on ability test scores from grades 1 and 2, a screening pool is created. Parents or guardians may refer 2nd grade students who are not in the screening pool, and students in grades 3 through 7, by submitting the AAP Level IV Referral Form (available in all schools and in the Forms section of this website according to the identification schedule below.

Testing:

Schools administer tests to all FCPS students in 1st and 2nd grades according to timeline below, and to students in 3rd through 7th grades who are missing ability test scores according to timeline below. Parents or guardians may request one retest in grades 3 through 7 during the fall testing cycle. Students must be enrolled in and attending FCPS in order to be tested. An ability test score is required for the screening process.

October 26, 2012
AAP Level IV Referral forms for new to FCPS students due to local school.
Parents/guardians send or deliver documents to Advanced Academic Resource Teacher at local school by this deadline.

NOVEMBER

November 6 - 8, 2012 (8:30 am - 3:30 p.m.)
Parents of students not attending FCPS submit screening files.

Appeals due to Advanced Academic Programs office.
