The Office of Benefit Services is responsible for employee insurance programs including medical, dental, life and long-term care; flexible spending accounts (healthcare and dependent care); tax-deferred retirement savings programs, and coordination with the three retirement agencies servicing FCPS employees (FCERS, VRS and ERFC). Wellness activities support health program cost reductions through positive employee engagement programming. The Disability and Leaves unit oversees the Integrated Disability Management program, which includes short- and long-term disability, Workers’ Compensation, and unpaid leaves of absence--including Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitlements.
Eligible employees may choose from three comprehensive, quality medical insurance plans, Point-of-Service (POS), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), and Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). Dental coverage may be added separately (at additional cost). You will automatically have the UnitedHealthcare Vision plan coverage when you enroll in any FCPS medical plan option.
FCPS offers Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for medical, dental, vision, and dependent day care.
Enrollment in Fairfax County Public Schools group life insurance plans is based on an employee's enrollment in a retirement program.
Long-Term Care (LTC) helps pay for in-home assistance or nursing care in the event you are unable to care for yourself for an extended period of time, due to a chronic illness or disability. Unlike Long-Term Disability, which replaces a portion of your income to cover your normal living expenses, LTC pays for caregiver expenses.
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) helps employees and their family members deal with personal problems that might adversely impact their work performance, health, and well-being. EAP generally includes assessment, short-term counseling, and referral services.
Participation in this program, including the nature of your concerns and any referrals, are confidential.
The FCPS Wellness Program is designed to assist employees with developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Fairfax County Public Schools was recognized in 2009-10 by the American Heart Association as a Start! Fit-Friendly company which recognizes employers for promoting physical activity and health in the workplace.
The Integrated Disability Management (IDM) Program consists of workers compensation, and short-term and long-term disability.
FCPS offers its contracted full and part-time employees sick, personal, and/or annual paid leaves. In addition some employees may also qualify for a longer unpaid Leave of Absence (LOA) and all employees who have worked for FCPS for at least 12 months may be eligible for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
403b All employees are eligible to participate in this plan, if you are eligible for the 457(b) program you may participate in both plans.
457b for Full-time and part-time salaried employees of FCPS.
Defined Benefits Retirement Plans are administered by the following independent agencies.
ERFC and VRS for full-time educational, administrative, or support employees (monthly-paid).
FCERS for maintenance, custodial, food service, transportation, and less-than-full-time educational, administrative, or monthly-paid support employees.
