By recruiting, developing, and retaining outstanding employees, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to building a world-class workforce dedicated to educational excellence.
The Office of Benefit Services is responsible for employee insurance programs including medical, dental, life and long-term care; flexible spending accounts (healthcare and dependent care); and tax-deferred retirement savings programs and coordination with the three retirement agencies servicing FCPS employees (FCERS, VRS and ERFC). Wellness activities support health program cost reductions through positive employee engagement programming. The Disability and Leaves programs oversee the Integrated Disability Management program, which includes short- and long-term disability, Workers’ Compensation, and unpaid leave of absence requests including Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitlements.
The purpose of the Office of Employment Services is to select and hire an outstanding and diverse workforce committed to fostering educational excellence.
The Office of Employee Performance and Development (OEPD) provides performance management guidance through the administration of the employee evaluation process and supports employees in achieving the highest level of job performance. OEPD conducts employee evaluation training, provides guidance and assistance regarding employee performance and discipline concerns, and offers professional development assistance to teachers and administrators. The Office of Employee Relations (OER) seeks to foster a positive relationship between the school system and its employees, employee advisory councils and certified organizations. OER ensures the integrity of the grievance process, provides advice and training regarding labor-management issues, and manages all FCPS employee elections.
Excellence in leading schools, in teaching students in our schools, and in supporting our schools is what Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is all about. The Department of Human Resources sponsors recognition of our outstanding performers as they seek to create and demonstrate best instructional and support practices.
The Office of Salary Services reviews and ensures competitive and equitable salary and classification plans; ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to the processing of new employees; processes all transactions regarding employee movement within the organization; provides financial oversight for department operations; retains official personnel records of employees; trains employees regarding compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); and provides divisionwide training and support for time and attendance processing.
The Office of Equity and Compliance (OEC) empowers employees to seek out their rights afforded to them, to ensure they are not working in a harassing nor discriminating workplace, and how to report any actions that may seem to have violated any policy or regulations of FCPS. The OEC handles all medical accommodation as defined under the American with Disabilities Act and can help assist employees whom are in the workplace. The Employee Assistance Program is a resource for employees and supervisors on work and personal issues.
The Office of Client Services runs the Welcome Center, a multi-purpose facility located on the first floor of Gatehouse Administrative Center I and is staffed by Human Resource (HR) professionals. Visitors and guests in the Welcome Center can receive general information, assistance, and guidance regarding Fairfax County Public Schools.
Various HR specific processes including applicant assistance, substitute employment, recruitment, orientation, fingerprinting, badge issuance and HR telephone support are also handled by the staff in the Welcome Center.
