Bell Schedules

The Office of Transportation Services works in concert with school principals and program managers to develop the start and end times for each school to provide effective service while controlling the need for resources. Bell Schedules must subsequently be approved by the Superintendent.

  • Tiering of school start & end times allows transportation to use fewer buses & drivers.
  • Each bus usually serves 2-3 school routes.
  • Balancing requirements across all of the tiers is needed to obtain economies.
    • Travel time between schools or routes
    • Number of schools and buses required on each tier
    • Volume of "Out of Boundary" routes

Timing is second only to safety...

General times buses are on the road:

6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m. high school
7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. middle school
8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. elementary school
9:00 a.m. - 1:50 p.m. shuttles, kindergarten runs, field trips
1:50 p.m. - 2:50 p.m. high school
2:50 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. middle school
3:30 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. elementary school
4:15 p.m. - 5:00+ p.m. late runs (SOL)
5:00+ p.m. field trips
