Overview

The Facilities Resource Management Section provides operational and administrative support to the headquarters at Sideburn Center, the Grounds and Central Operations at Woodson and the satellite centers at Edison, Herndon and Sideburn.

The Facilities Resource Management Section provides the following support services:

Administration Services Branch

The Administration Services Branch is responsible for personnel management, general administrative support to satellite centers and plant operations, maintenance engineering and energy management, mail distribution, vehicle record keeping and building management at the various centers.

Work Order Branch

The Work Order Branch receives and processes an average of 80,000 requests per year via the on-line work order system, as well as by fax or telephone. The Work Order Branch receives all requests for routine, serious, and emergency maintenance of buildings and equipment, as well as, capital outlay requests from more than 260 Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) schools, centers and offices. The branch dispatches 11,000 emergency calls per year to mechanics via radio and pager.

Financial Services Branch

The Financial Services Branch is responsible for financial monitoring and reconciliation of all expenditure and revenue activities, monthly workload reporting and other related management reporting as required for 25 funds. This includes preparing bills to schools/offices/Fairfax County Agencies and Fairfax City for capital outlay work.

The branch is also responsible for overseeing the utility fund expenditures for electricity, natural gas, heating fuel oil, water, sewer and refuse services. Management of the heating oil program involves ensuring that all facilities have available fuel oil and that oil tanks are not leaking. Monthly usage reports are submitted to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality during the winter months.

Inventory Management Branch

The Inventory Management Branch maintains and controls four distribution centers that are located at the Sideburn Support Center, Woodson Support Center (Grounds), the Edison Support Center, and the Herndon Support Center. The branch is also responsible for the administration of the custodial and trades employee uniform and safety shoes programs. Inventory functions include inventory cycle counting, parts issues, parts and materials receipts, inventory replenishment requirements, capital assets and surplus of excess equipment. On-hand inventory averages 13,000 individual line items.

Procurement Branch

The Procurement Branch operates from the Sideburn Support Center and performs centralized purchasing functions. Procurement activities include obtaining replacement parts, a variety of service contracts, uniforms, new and replacement equipment, machinery, and tools. This group reports to the Facilities & Transportation Services Administrative Services Office.
