Architectural & Engineering Contracts
Architectural & Engineering Contracts are administered by the Department of Facilities and Transportation Services, Office of Design and Construction Services. A&E Firms are solicited for the design of Capital Bond Improvement Projects every two years. This advertisement is posted in July prior to the November vote for bond approval. A&E firms are required to submit GSA 254 and 255 regarding firm's capabilities to be considered for future projects. A Selection Advisory Committee will select architects most appropriate, and oral interviews are conducted. Upon completion of successful negotiations, award is recommended to the Fairfax County Public School Board.
Facilities Modifications Projects
Contractors providing facilities modifications to school buildings or administrative facilities are contracted through competitive sealed bidding or time and material rates. Contractors may register to receive informal (up to $50,000) and formal bid (over $50,000) requirements by completing a Bidders Mailing List Application.
Small and Minority Business Enterprise Program
Fairfax County has adopted a Small and Minor Business Enterprise Program (SMBE) which has the objective to make every effort to increase the opportunity for utilization of small and minority firms in all aspects of procurement. Information on the small/minority business program may be obtained by linking to Fairfax County Department of Purchasing & Supply Management (DPSM) or by calling 703-324-3201.
Time and Materials Contracts
Fairfax County Public Schools, Office of Design and Construction Services may have requirements for facilities modifications to school building or administrative facilities. These projects will require the trades of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, general contractor, and telecommunications. These improvements are generally under $10,000.00. Time and Material Rates will be bid only on an annual basis in April, and multiple awards will be made. The Invitation for Bid (IFB) for Time and Material Rates will be available for pick up during the months of April/May. Time and materials contractors shall be rotated for each of the trades based on price consideration and quality of work, whichever is in the best interest of Fairfax County Public Schools in an attempt to offer an opportunity to perform at least one Time and Materials contract during the contract period.
