Where can I get my current sick and/or annual leave balances?
You may review your sick and/or annual leave balances on your pay advice or via UConnect.
May I transfer in unused sick leave to FCPS from my prior employer?
You may transfer up to sixty (60) days of unused sick leave from another Virginia Public School division. Separation from the previous school division must have occurred within 12 months of beginning employment with FCPS, and the request must be received by FCPS within 12 months of separation from the previous school division. Complete a Request to Transfer Unused Sick Leave to FCPS (form FS73-07) and submit it to your previous school division, who must then return it to the Office of Payroll Management. [Top]
How much sick leave do I earn?
Sick leave is earned as follows:
- Monthly paid employees who work less-than-12-months per year earn at a rate of .0632 times the eligible hours worked each month. This would be approximately 12 days per year for employees that work 10 months of the year.
- Monthly paid employees that work 12 months per year earn at a rate of .0538 times the eligible hours worked each month. This would be approximately 14 days per year for employees that work an entire 12 months of the year.
- Biweekly paid employees earn at a rate of .0538 times the eligible hours worked in the two-week work period. [Top]
Why does my pay advice show only my sick leave balance and not my personal leave balance?
Personal leave is not a separate plan. While sick leave usage and personal leave usage are displayed on separate lines on the pay advice for informational purposes, both sick leave usage and personal leave usage are deducted from the available sick leave balance. Employees that work less-than-12-months per year may request the use of up to three days of sick leave per year as personal leave. Unused portions of the 3 allowable personal leave days in one year may not be carried over to a subsequent year in order to take more than 3 days of personal leave in any given year. Unused portions of the 3 allowable personal leave days in a year simply remain as sick leave which is carried over each year as part of the sick leave balance. [Top]
How much annual leave do I earn?
Only 12-month employees are eligible for annual leave. The earnings rate is dependent on the number of eligible years of service with FCPS.
