School Breakfast

  Why School Breakfast
   reasons for breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Research shows breakfast eaters perform better in class and have better attendance and behavior. It “breaks” the night’s “fast” by replacing the energy reserves used overnight. School-aged children, especially teens are the biggest “breakfast skipper”. Create a nutritious breakfast by including whole grain breads, whole grain cereals, fruits and vegetables, milk, yogurt or cheese.

To meet student needs, FCPS serves breakfast in 160 schools and offers an optional “Breakfast in the Classroom” in some schools. The breakfast menu is planned to be quick grab and go due to tight morning schedules especially with late buses. The cereals are whole grain and contain reduced sugar.

To promote the importance of breakfast, FCPS has designated October as Breakfast Month, celebrating by inviting special characters such as E-Z Bear and Tony the Tiger to schools.
