Non-fiction writing competes with high drama in Rosalyn Schanzer’s beautiful books that depict the life and times of real heroes, legends, and historical events. Winner of numerous awards, her latest publication, Witches! The Absolutely True Tale of Disaster in Salem won The Society of Illustrators’ Gold Medal for best illustrated book of 2011.
Children's author and illustrator, Schanzer likes “being a detective who finds true stories from history that hardly anybody has ever heard.”
During the live webcast, Schanzer answers questions from students in Virginia and Texas via Skype. She shows viewers her photographs and journals she uses during her research. We visit the author's studio and see the steps that lead to the final illustrations for her books.
