Holtz
November 13, 2008 · Grades 4-8

Paleontologist, professor, and author Dr. Thomas R. Holtz, Jr. believes our understanding of dinosaurs is changing every day. The studio discussion focuses on Dinosaurs: The Most Complete, Up-To-Date Encyclopedia for Dinosaur Lovers of All Ages.

During the program, Dr. Holtz discusses what a fossil is, the importance of surrounding sedimentary rock, and how research confirms that dinosaurs are the ancestors of birds. Segments include questions from students, a field excursion to the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, and a visit to the storage room of the Smithsonian’s paleobiology department at the National Museum of Natural History.
