It took Dan Gutman a while to find his niche. His first books were for adults, but in 1992, he changed his direction and started to write books for children. Additionally, he started visiting schools in person, giving a program in which he used sports to get students, especially “reluctant readers,” excited about reading and writing.
During the program, Gutman explains how perseverance pays off—his first book took two years to be published after countless rejection letters. The author candidly talks with the student audience about his life and his writing routine.
