Carmen Agra Deedy makes a return with characters who could have walked straight out of a nineteenth century Dickens’ novel. From the opening “HE WAS THE BEST OF TOMS. He was the worst of toms” to the epilogue, The Cheshire Cheese Cat: A Dickens of a Tale thrills the reader with secrets and mystery.
This award-winning storyteller is the author of numerous bestselling books for children including Agatha's Feather Bed: Not Just Another Wild Goose Story, Martina the Beautiful Cockroach: A Cuban Folktale, and 14 Cows for America.
During the program, Deedy talks about her approach to the writing process and how life in Decatur, Georgia shaped her as a storyteller and author. Co-author Randall Wright joins the program via webcast. He describes how their book tries to capture the voice of Charles Dickens, the inspiration for their story.
