Community Outreach Services of Early Childhood Identification and Services

 

Early Childhood Identification and Services serves a proactive role in the community through:

  • Increasing community awareness of early identification of suspected disabilities and the importance of early intervention
  • Providing information to the public on topics related to early child development
  • Informing the public of early childhood special education services

Liaisons to Local Preschools and Day Care Centers

Early childhood special education (ECSE) staff serve as a resource to local preschools in the Fairfax County community. ECSE staff identify preschools, day care centers, and Family and Early Childhood Education Programs (FECEP) in the area and may provide any of the following services:

  • Conducting staff observations of children about whom both the staff and parents have concerns Note: ECSE does not conduct observations of children without written parental consent
  • Providing information about Child Find and identification services
  • Providing support and information to preschool staff and parents

Early Childhood Social Work Services
Social Workers assigned to the ECSE program are available to provide the following
services to students currently receiving services in Fairfax County’s ECSE program:

  • Support of teachers
  • Interagency collaboration
    • Infant and Toddler Connection
    • Child Protective Services
    • Department of Family Services
    • Private providers and agencies
  • Training and education
    • In-service for new teachers
    • Monthly preschool parenting series
    • Specific information on Child Find
  • Direct intervention with families
    • Short term parenting intervention and crises management
    • Referrals to mental health/behavioral therapists
    • Assistance in accessing community resources
    • Support for children transitioning from Infant Toddler Connection and to kindergarten
