A parent or guardian of a student enrolled
in FCPS may request a student transfer for his or
her school-aged child (K-12) from their base
school for the next school year during transfer season.
FCPS approves a transfer request for very specific
reasons as outlined in Regulation
2230. They are:
1. Family relocation

2. Child care hardship
(elementary only) *
3. Medical, emotional,
social, or family adjustment hardship *
4. FCPS parent employee
working 20+ hours/week
5. High School Curricular
program
* Applicants must provide specific documentation to support the transfer request.
Student Application Procedure and Deadlines:
1. Students must be enrolled in their base
school before starting
the application procedure. Registration information
is available at http://www.fcps.edu/dss/osp/StudentRegistration/index.htm.

2. Parents must complete the appropriate transfer application by the specified
2009-2010 deadlines. See applications below:

In the absence of extenuating circumstances,
late applications will not be processed. |
Important
Notes:
-
All
transfers are considered
on a space available basis. The Notification of Schools Closed for Transfers list for 2009-2010 is available.
- FCPS
does not provide transportation except for students
affected by School Board approved boundary phase-ins.
- A
transfer may be terminated if the conditions
of the transfer are not maintained by the student.
- If
a student is seeking High School Curricular transfer, he or she may not be eligible to participate in secondary school interscholastic
athletics for one year.
High
School Curricular Application Season
closed April 15, 2009
If you are a parent new to Fairfax County Schools and are requesting a high school
curricular transfer after April 15, 2009,
please do the following:
Begin the registration process at the base
(local) high school for your attendance
area. Request a curricular transfer application
form and letter of understanding from the
local school. Further details are listed
below.
Students
must be registered at the FCPS
base high school before starting
the transfer process.
Parents
and students should review local
curricular options at the base
high school.
If
the desired program is unavailable
at the base high school, parents
request the curricular program
(AP,IB, foreign language, or
academy sequence) at the school
location nearest the student’s base school or home address.
Parents
complete a high school curricular
student transfer form (SS/SE
221) requesting the desired program.
The
appropriate Letter of Understanding
must be signed by the parent
and student.
Submit
the application and Letter of
Understanding to the base high
school principal for review.
The
requested school principal notifies
the parent or guardian of the
transfer decision in writing.
Please
note: All transfer requests are considered on a space available basis. Applications
submitted without required
documentation will be returned.
