School Attendance and Engagement Information for Parents

Secondary School Attendance and Engagement

  • Attendance will be checked daily for period and all-day absences at 4 p.m.
  • Calls and e-mails will follow at 7 p.m. via the Automated Attendance Calling system or by the school.
  • Consequences of not attending school:
    • Early intervention—Applying progressive consequences, such as lunch detention or Saturday detention, after-school detention, loss of parking privilege, loss of extracurricular privileges, parent conference that may result in loss of home-related privileges.
    • Legal intervention—Applying mandatory attendance laws with progressive consequences, including formal referral to attendance officer and required parent conference and attendance plan, community service, and formal complaint to Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court to institute proceedings against the parent or guardian.

Parents and teachers have a responsibility to model and teach responsibility for our children and students. Attending school is a responsibility and an opportunity to achieve academic success; lead responsible, fulfilling, and respectful lives; and contribute to the community.
