Student Owned Digital Device Initiative at Colvin Run

In order to continue to provide for increased access to technology as a tool for learning, we have have begun to allow 5th and 6th grade students to bring personal laptops and e-readers to school for instructional use. Participation in this initiative is strictly optional, at the discretion of each family. On this page are permission and information forms for families and resources that students may want to download for use.

Basic Parameters & Expectations:

Form for ALL digital devices and information for parents

Netbook, tablet or laptop w/working wireless, USB port, flash drive (optional), power supply, current antivirus/spyware software

Laptops:

  • Laptop will be at school daily
  • Notebook sleeve (Small portable case for storing/carrying
  • Recommendations: Microsoft office
  • Laptops will be stored in classrooms
  • use will be at teacher direction/discretion during instruction
  • students follow IUP policy signed at start of school year, new IUP will be signed
  • no email or IM communication during school day
  • suggested software: Photostory, Audacity, Google Earth (see links below)

E-Reader:

  • Parent permission form must be on file with school before an e-reader may be used
  • Wireless capability needs to be turned off while at Colvin Run
  • use will be at teacher direction/discretion
  • no email or IM communication during school day
