Welcome to the Laurel Hill Elementary School Site

The project is scheduled to be completed in mid July 2009.

The proposed school will be approximately. 98,590 square feet on two stories. A site plan is available (PDF format). There are thirty eight (38) full sized classrooms (K-6). The school site is 18.5 acres and will feature one soccer field, two softball fields, a paved play area, a creative playground, (146) parking spaces, a Kiss and Ride, and a separate Bus Loop.

BOUNDARIES APPROVED

On February 19, the Fairfax County School Board approved the boundaries for the new elementary school at the Laurel Hill site, based on citizen input provided at School Board public hearings. A map of the approved boundaries is available.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL BAEK CHONG JOINS THE SCHOOL TEAM

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Baek Chong, assistant principal at South County Secondary School, has been appointed as the new elementary assistant principal at the Laurel Hill Elementary School Site. This appointment will be effective on April 1.

Mr. Chong is an experienced administrator who brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to our new school. He is happy to be able to stay within the Lorton area to continue his association with the students and families of the area. Please join us in wishing Baek great success in this new and exciting professional experience!

SCHOOL NAME PROPOSED

A community meeting to suggest names for the new elementary school was held on Wednesday, March 4th at South County Secondary School. The top three names selected were Laurel Hill Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, and South County Elementary School. These three names will be submitted to the division Superintendent and the School Board for their review and consideration on March 19th. The final vote for selection of the name will be held on April 2nd.

PRINCIPAL SUZANNE MONTGOMERY APPOINTED

It is with much pleasure that Cluster V announces the appointment of Ms. Suzanne Montgomery as the principal of the new elementary school at the Laurel Hill site.  After a rigorous selection process involving community and staff input and participation, Ms. Montgomery was determined to be the best candidate to serve as principal.  She has had an outstanding career as a teacher, school-based technology specialist, and school administrator in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). 

The school office is located in a trailer on South County Secondary School's parking lot. Ms. Montgomery is working closely with FCPS personnel and affected communities to ensure a smooth opening of this new school scheduled for September 2009.
