Nominations Now Being Accepted for Support Employee of the Year, Outstanding First-Year Teacher and First-Year Principal, and A. Heath Onthank Awards

Support Employee of the Year

FCPS employee awards celebrate excellence and recognize contributions that promote student success. Help showcase the important role support employees play by nominating a deserving staff member for Support Employee of the Year. Any employee who is not a principal or teacher is eligible for this award, and anyone may nominate a support employee. All nominees will be recognized at the FCPS Honors awards event at the George Mason University Center for the Arts on May 29.

Consider nominating a counselor, instructional assistant, building staff member, technology support specialist, school-based technology specialist, public health training assistant, or office staff member at your school. All nonschool-based support employees are also eligible, so you might also consider nominating a bus driver, administrative assistant, technician, or specialist you have worked with in one of the departments who has gone above and beyond to assist you!

Outstanding First-Year Teacher and Principal Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2013 FCPS Outstanding First-Year Teacher and First-Year Principal awards. Any school administrator or Great Beginnings coach/mentor may nominate first-year teachers. Any FCPS employee or community member may nominate a first-year principal. New this year: In recognition of supportive and collaborative teams, the school of the award winner will also receive a celebration in honor of their contribution to excellence. Nominations close Friday, March 8 for both awards.

Fairfax County A. Heath Onthank Award

The Onthank Award recognizes up to three individual employees whose outstanding accomplishments have advanced and improved public service in the Fairfax County Government and School System. Accomplishments vary widely in form and substance, and the achieved gains, potential value, and environment in which the achievement took place are all considered.

Merit system employees of the county government, and contracted unified salary scale and food service employees of FCPS are eligible to be nominated. Any person or group may submit a nomination. Recipients receive an engraved plaque and a cash award. This year’s winners will be recognized at a ceremony on June 18. The deadline for nominations is March 14.
