2012 College Fair and Night, Fairfax County Public Schools, School Counseling Services

Make the College Connection at the 37th Annual College Fair and College Night Programs

Fairfax County Public Schools high school students and their families are encouraged to attend the following two events to explore post-graduation educational opportunities.

  • 2012 College Fair at Fair Oaks Mall,
    Sunday, October 21, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
(Note: One free ticket per family is required for admission.)
  • 2012 College Night at Hayfield Secondary School,
    Monday, October 22, 7 to 9 p.m.

Both events provide opportunities for college-bound students and their parents to gather information from a variety of schools. Approximately 400 colleges and universities are represented, including two-year and four-year colleges; military academies; and business, technical, and nursing schools.

Students are encouraged to register for these events at http://www.fcpscollegefairs.com in order to receive a personal admittance pass. This pass will eliminate the need for students to complete information cards for the college representatives the night of the events and will allow for more discussion time between representatives and students.

In addition, workshops are tentatively scheduled at College Night on the following topics:

  • The SAT and ACT: Their Role in the College Application Process.
  • Financial aid.
  • Considerations for Students with Disabilities in the College Search and Beyond.
  • Looking Beyond College Rankings and Scary Stories to Find the Best Fit.
  • Writing the College Application Essay.
  • NCAA Division I, II, and III: A Student-Athlete’s Experience.
  • Family Connection: Student and Parent Access to College Planning Tools.
  • The First Step to College Readiness—Career Planning.
  • The United Kingdom: For Students Interested in Opportunities Abroad.
