Welcome to a new school year! Our schools and staff are ready to greet every one of our 181,500 students and get them off to a great start.
Across the system, we are focused on helping every child meet our three student achievement goals. They are to pursue academic excellence, develop essential life skills, and demonstrate responsibility to the community. This means in addition to mastering the core subjects, including math, science, social studies, and English, our students will develop practical life skills; demonstrate honesty, responsibility, and leadership; and learn how to take care of our environment.
We have been hard at work making improvements throughout our school system. For example, elementary school parents will receive new progress reports this fall that will give much more information about how their child is learning.
And students at all levels will be able to select from healthier meal choices, including foods with lower calories, lower sodium, and zero trans fats, plus their choice of fat-free or one percent milk.
Also, we are improving communications with our families with the new, updated newsletter you are reading now called My FCPS - Family (formerly the Familygram), which will come to you more frequently and with timelier information. I invite your feedback on the new format so send us an e-mail with your comments to fcpsinfo@fcps.edu.
And have a great school year!
Jack D. Dale
Superintendent
