MentorWorks is the umbrella name for school-based mentoring programs in Fairfax County Public Schools. MentorWorks began as an initiative in 1999 by former Superintendent Daniel Domenech.

MentorWorks Fall Conference

Hassan Mims, Dean of Students at Annandale High School, inspired and motivated the school based mentor program coordinators with his presentation “My  Mentor-My Life” at the MentorWorks Fall Conference on October 2, 2009.  His personal story demonstrated the power of mentoring and reminded the audience of the significance of mentoring.  Presenters for the workshops that followed included, Carol Padgett, Carrie Jones, Bethany Koszelak, Marcella Fulmore, Kimberly Cook and Shonda Whittaker. All the sessions provided attendees with valuable strategies and tips to enhance their current programs or initiate new ones.   Special guests, Barbara Hunter, Assistant Superintendent, Department of Communications and Community Outreach and Allyson Roberts, Program Director, Virginia Mentoring Partnerships, shared their insights.  These valuable presentations combined with opportunities to network resulted in a successful learning experience for all.

Donna Franklin, Coordinator, Information Technology has been selected as the April 2009 FCPS MentorWorks Mentor of the Month.

Mentor of the Month

Carol Robinson, Educational Planning Specialist in the Department of Accountability, has been selected as the MentorWorks June Mentor of the Month for her work with at Pine Spring Elementary School. More.

Will Kreger, a senior at West Potomac High School has been selected as the FCPS Mentor of the Month.

Fairfax County Police Sgt. Nichols was presented the Outstanding Mentor Award from Virginia Mentoring Partnership at their awards luncheon in Richmond on February 12. Details.
