TECHNOLOGY

All teachers and staff members have access to the enterprise e-mail system (firstname.lastname@fcps.edu), which processes more than 15 million e-mail messages each month. All classrooms and administrative sites are connected for Internet access with Internet content filtering to block inappropriate sites. Wireless laptop labs continue to be implemented at many schools. FCPS has a 3:1 student to computer ratio with more than 90,000 workstations.

Many FCPS services are available online. FCPS 24-7 Learning provides teachers, students, and parents access to homework and course enrichment resources via the web (http://fcps.blackboard.com/). A web-enabled library system is available for students and parents (http://libcat.fcps.edu), and the Keep in Touch system (www.fcps.edu) provides citizens the ability to register to receive school closing announcements and other school-related information via e-mail. An overview of the technology plan can be accessed online at: http://www.fcps.edu/DIT/techplan/tech.html
