Woodlawn's PTA works very closely with Woodlawn Principals and staff to create programs that benefit the children and their families. We provide safe and fun entertainment by raising money to purchase needed equipment for the school.
Our PTA Board is a group of parents who have been elected to serve a term in the leadership of the PTA. Other parents volunteers and community residents are encouraged to come and volunteer regularly through the PTA. Woodlawn needs us ALL!
Here are a few ways Woodlawn's PTA has helped the school:
- Reimburse teachers for a portion of their classroom expenses not paid for through the Fairfax County Public Education system.
- Purchase bread, peanut butter, and jelly for those who have forgotten their lunch.
- Purchased the school weather station that allows students to check the Woodlawn weather from their classroom computers and do weather-related science activities.
- Provided matching funds for Reading is Fundamental (RIF) books.
- Purchased Heart Monitors for use in the Physical Education Program at Woodlawn.
- Supported the Partners in Print program by providing funds for books, food, and door prizes.
- Reduced the cost of Yearbooks so that they are affordable for all families.
- Sponsor "Skate nights" at local roller skating rink.
- Provided resources for the Young Scholars summer school program
- Pay a portion of fees for teachers to attend important education seminars.
