History:
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) began breaking ground for our new school building in 1989. FCPS named the school after the natural Willow Spring that runs under the land into the Little Rocky Run. During our construction year, teachers and students held school at Virginia Run Elementary School (ES) which at the time was also a new school. Willow Springs Elementary School (ES) occupied the second floor of Virginia Run ES. The current school building officially opened its doors in September 1990, with Mary Roots as its principal. Cathy McBride has taught Willow Springs' students every school year since 1989 when we began at Virginia Run ES. In addition, Terri Kidwell joined our teaching staff in 1990 (the first year in our current building) and she also has taught here ever since. In 1989 we were originally called the Willow Springs Warriors. Upon moving into the new building, we voted to become the Willow Springs Foxes. The beautiful large Willow trees on our school grounds were planted by our first Student Council during the inaugural year in our new building.
Our school motto has always been… “If it is to be, it is up to me!”
