A Message from your PTA President
Hello Weyanoke Parents and Teachers,
The Weyanoke Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) hopes that you had a great summer with your children and welcomes all new families to the Weyanoke Community. The PTA is off to a great start this year. We provided a luncheon for the teachers the week before school began and provided a dinner for the teachers between the Meet and Greet sessions the first week in September. We need your help by joining the PTA and volunteering just 2 hours of your time anytime during the school year. Membership forms were sent out last week. The yearly dues are only $7.00 and you will get a free student directory for joining. Show pride in your school by purchasing a Weyanoke magnet for your car or refrigerator for $5.00. If you have any questions, please contact Marjorie Smith, Membership Chair, at .
Our annual main event for raising money is well underway. You received the Cherrydale Catalogue on September 16 and orders are due on October 5. We will distribute items during the parent/teacher conferences on November 2 and 3. We will need from 4 to 6 volunteers to cover the two days. Call or email me to sign up for a time slot. We really need your support for the many services we provide for our children and teachers. When you are involved with your school, you get to know the future teachers of your children and learn more about what is happening in the classroom. The more money we raise the more we can do for our children. The PTA provides money for buses for field trips, books and supplies for classrooms, educational assemblies for the children, Honor Roll Awards, teacher appreciation gifts, and much more. On October 6, we will be sponsoring an Author’s Visit to Weyanoke.
We will also have our Fall Book Fair from October 26 to October 30. The proceeds from this event are used to buy books for the children’s classrooms. Please come to the Book Fair in the school library to purchase books for your children. We also need volunteers to help with the Book Fair. Please contact Jana Hollis, the Book Fair Chair, at to volunteer for a time slot. We look forward to the children having fun with the PTA sponsored Math Magician Assembly on December 18 and the field trips this fall.
I am the mother of three children at Weyanoke. Tony and Maria are third-grade students and Jose’ has just started Kindergarten. The best time to start helping is anytime but we started helping the PTA when our third-grade children started Kindergarten. I am proud to serve our community by being your PTA President. My husband and I want to be involved in our children’s education and we stepped up to help our school be the best it can be. We enjoy working with the teachers on different events in our school and seeing our children and yours feel the caring that each teacher and PTA volunteer gives when they are with them. The events are fun. It takes many volunteers to have a successful year. We can teach you what you need to know to give us 2 hours of your time during one of these learning events. We understand how busy everyone is and would appreciate the extra effort you can make to be here at the school events. Our next PTA meeting is Monday, October 19th at 9:30am in the school library. Although we would love to see you, you don’t have to attend PTA meetings to get involved; just contact me when you are free to help. It is easy. Please email or phone me! I’d love to hear from you!
I would like to say how wonderful and dedicated our teachers here at Weyanoke Elementary School are. We all can tell that the teachers love our children and work with them to make their education experience the best the children can have in every grade. I know when we volunteer we learn and gain a better understanding on how teachers work so well with our children. Please give them a helping hand when they need it. Teachers give so much to our children: their time, effort, and understanding in and out of the classroom to help our children have a good education.
Thanks so much!
