Westfield High School Attendance Policy
Attendance Policy PDF :: Attedance Policy Spanish Translation
Absences:
If your student is absent from WHS, please remember to call the attendance line at 703-488-6316 within 48 school hours of the absence.
Arriving Late:
If your student is arriving late, please call the attendance line at 703-488-6316 or send a note in with the student. Notes must include the student's name, grade, parent signature, phone number, date, and reason for the tardiness. Emails regarding absences or tardies are not accepted.
Westfield has adopted a progressive discipline approach for tardiness to school and/or to class. For habitual tardiness, several disciplinary actions may occur to include: lunch cleanup duties, Monday after-school detention, Friday after-school detention, and loss of parking pass privileges.
Checking Out of School:
If your student is leaving school early, your student must bring a note to the Attendance Office BEFORE the start of the school day. VERBAL DISMISSALS are not accepted. In an EMERGENCY, after contacting the Attendance Office, a fax can be sent to the office at 703-488-6429 with the student's name, grade, dismissal time, reason, parent signature, and phone number. If a parent is unable to fax, they must come to the office with a photo ID to sign out their student. If none of the above is possible, permission must be obtained from a Westfield administrator or his/her designee.
Failure to check in or out with the Attendance Office will result in an unexcused absence for all missed classes.
Prearranged Absence:
If you know in advance that your child will be absent from school, please instruct him/her to visit the Attendance Office with a note from you, to obtain a prearranged absence form, at least 48 hours before the date of the absence(s). Some examples of prearranged absences are college visits, family vacations, foreseen surgeries, etc.
