Two parent liaisons have been hired to serve as a link between
families of Korean and Hispanic the school, serving as translators
and cultural mediators.
Liaisons work part-time every week, meeting with administrators,
counselors, teachers, and students. They aid parents who cannot
speak English in understanding school events and programs. They
will also help both the faculty and parents understand each others
cultural differences in an attempt to make parents more active
in their children’s education.
Soon Kim will be working with Korean families
on Mondays from 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.. Hilda Ventura,
will work with Hispanic families on Tuesdays from 8:30-11:30 a.m.
and Thursdays from 12:30-3:30 p.m.
Both liasions have been working at Westfield High School for a
couple of years. They both have had experience working with the
school's activities and with the parents.
Their office is in the library, and they can be reached at 703-488-6564
during their hours of work.
