Special Education Classes

The Special Education program at Westfield High School services all students with special needs who live within our boundaries when it is IEP appropriate. The program currently services students with learning, emotional, or physical disabilities, speech and language deficits, or mental retardation.

Students receive special education services in the general education setting with appropriate in-class support (i.e. team taught classes, monitor status, or mainstream with basic skills support). Self-contained (small group) classes are also available for students who need a more individualized or modified curriculum.

Students will be assisted by the special education staff to sign up for the appropriate classes as specified on their IEP (Individualized Education Plan). Students will be working toward a standard, advanced studies or modified standard diploma. Based on student needs (as determined at the IEP) and teacher staffing, it is hoped that the Special Education Dept. will be able to offer the following electives:

Developmental Reading
Basic Skills Resource
Work Awareness and Transition
Career Pathways
Life Skills
