Science Honor Society

Course Descriptions

Sponsor: Dr. Carol Raphael

The Science Honor Society, Sigma Chi Iota, is a service organization to the science community at Westfield High School. The Society was established to honor high achieving science students and to provide tutoring in science for the Westfield High School population.

Students are eligible for admission if they are juniors, have and maintain a 3.5 average in their science classes, have a GPA of at least 3.0, and submit by February 2, 2009 a completed, signed, and verified application form along with 5 points of service. Also, all potential members must attend an information meeting on October 6 to receive information and applications.

In order to maintain eligibility, students must be currently enrolled in science, maintain a 3.5 science average and a 3.0 GPA, and perform 15 points of service at Westfield High School in the field of science. Approved service activities are printed on the points form and must be signed by a member of the Westfield Science Department. Induction of new members is held in February and applications must be submitted by February 2 to be considered for induction into the society. No late applications are accepted.

The Society meets periodically during the year. There is a bulletin board outside room C203 for members to check. Announcements of upcoming activities are made through Westfield Live. Questions should be addressed to Dr. Carol G. Raphael, Sponsor.
