Medical Excuses

Students may be excused from participation due to illness or injury , and should have a note from their parent or physician. The parent note should state the limitations for the student’s participation. The student will still be required to dress-out if appropriate. A physician’s note should be presented if the student is to be excused for more than two consecutive classes, or for any chronic or recurring conditions.

Unexcused Absences and Tardiness

Absence and Tardiness disrupts the continuity and environment conducive to effective learning. As in all classes, attendance is imperative, and students are expected to make up all missed assignments and activity.

The following WHS attendance policy will be followed.
7 Unexcused Tardies = 3 Unexcused Absences
3 Unexcused Absences = Class Failure for Quarter
Excused: Work must be made-up to receive credit
Unexcused: Students will not have the opportunity to make up work and will serve detention

*Tardiness poses a safety and security risk in the locker rooms, as well as disruption of the learning environment. This makes it imperative that all students be to the locker room on time, dress out quickly, and get to class on time. Students will not be allowed in the locker room after class begins.

Making Up Missed Work

It is necessary for students to participate fully on a daily basis, while maintaining good attendance. All work and activity missed that is excused must be made up within TWO weeks. All make-ups should be arranged with the instructor.

One day per week (Monday) will be reserved for HPE activity make-up from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. This will be postponed if there is no late bus on that day.

Showers

Showers are strongly recommended. Private stalls are available here at Westfield HS. This is to promote good personal hygiene. Towel service is available, yet students may bring a towel from home to use. Personal towels from home must be washed on a consistent basis, and will be checked regularly.

Locks and Lockers

Students will be issued a combination lock for the year. Students must not share their lock combination with anyone, and are not allowed to share lockers. A lost lock will cost $5.00 to replace.

Equipment

Loss of or damage to equipment and facilities through maliciousness or neglect will be the responsibility of the student to replace or repair.

Lost and Found

All found items should be turned in to an instructor. Please check with a teacher if you have misplaced an item. All stolen items should be reported to security. Students should not bring valuables into the locker room.

Sportsmanship and Respect

All students will at all times attempt to work cooperatively and appropriately, while respecting the rights and differences of others.

ANY COMMENT, GESTURE, OR ACTION THAT ABUSES, DEMEANS, HARMS, OR EMBARRASSES ANOTHER PERSON OR GROUP OF PEOPLE IS PROHIBITED.

Health and Physical Education is a structured learning environment. It is our goal that ALL will learn AND enjoy!

I have read and understand the HPE policies and procedures, understand my role, and agree to follow these guidelines.
