Course Descriptions

Latin Club

The Latin Club is open to all students and focuses on the promotion of Roman culture. Activities include a Roman banquet, a Latin week celebration in April, visits to local Italian restaurants, and presentations at elementary schools.

Latin Honor Society

LHS is a merit based organization, open to students who have attained an A average in Latin after 6 quarters or a B+ average after 10 quarters. It is service oriented and recognizes the achievement of all students of Latin.

National Latin Exam

The National Latin Exam is open to all students of Latin and takes place during the second week of March. Examinations are offered from the Introductory Level through Latin V. Medals and/or certificates are given to students who place first through fourth. We are very proud of all of the WSHS NLE award winners.

Latin Governor's Academy

The Latin Academy is designed to provide a unique and exciting opportunity for outstanding Latin students who are interested in gaining greater knowledge of the language and related cultural topics not offered in the school curriculum. They will spend three weeks in an environment and with a schedule similar to the other governor's schools. WHS has the
opportunity to nominate two students each year for consideration for acceptance.
