Course Descriptions

French Club

The French Club is open to students enrolled in any level of French. The club meets once a month. Students participate in activities which enhance students' understanding of French culture and customs. Events and activities include watching French movies, celebrating French holidays, preparing French foods, playing games, dining at a local French restaurant and fundraising.

Dues for the year are $5.00 to cover the cost of refreshments, which are served at each meeting.

Faculty sponsor is Madame Barrau.

French Honor Society

Students who have completed at least one semester of French 3 (or above) who have a B+ average in French and a B overall are eligible to apply for membership to the French Honor Society. Applications are made available to students after the first semester and for those who qualify, an induction ceremony for new members takes place in the spring.

Members of the French Honor Society are required to earn a specified number of service points each year by contributing their time, expertise and interest in French language and culture. Students may earn these points in a variety of ways such as providing tutoring services after school to help those who are having difficulty with language learning. Students may also perform service by helping French teachers after school, participating infundraising activities and contributing ideas for activities and events during National French Week.

Faculty sponsor is Madame Pluchinsky.

French Governor's Academy

The French Academy is designed to provide a unique and exciting opportunity for outstanding French students who are interested in gaining greater knowledge of the language and related cultural topics not offered in the school curriculum. They will spend three weeks in an environment and with a schedule similar to the other governor's schools. WHS has the opportunity to nominate two students each year for
consideration for acceptance.
