Special Education Classes

Westfield High School is committed to providing students who receive special education services with educational and social opportunities, along a continuum of services, allowing access to and participation in the activities of the school and community environments based on the needs of the student.

Westfield High School provides services to students with disabilities by planning annual goals based on each student’s individual skills and needs. Our talented teachers are committed to their role in planning with students and their families for postsecondary education, employment and independence. See link to planning ahead:

Westfield High School protects the rights of students with disabilities to be educated by teachers trained to instruct through adapted curriculum, utilize a variety of instructional strategies and provide supplementary materials appropriate for the student's individual educational program (IEP).

Our team of talented and supportive staff provides a continuum of special education services, ranging from least to most restrictive:

• consultation to general education teacher
• co-teaching with a general education colleague
• self-contained classes

Across the continuum of special education services, Westfield High School serves students with one or more of the following identified disabilities:

Autism
Emotional disability
Deaf and hard of hearing
Specific learning disability
Intellectual Disabilities
Multiple disabilities
Physical disability (traumatic brain injury, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment)
Severe and profound disability
Speech and language impairment
Visual impairment
