WHS Earns Governor's Award

Congratulations Westfield!

Westfield High School was one of only four high schools in FCPS to earn the Governor's Award for Educational Excellence created by the Virginia Board of Education. Eighteen total Fairfax County public schools are among 89 schools (elementary, middle and high) statewide that met the criteria for the award.

The criteria below is also available on the VDOE website and the FCPS website:

Qualifications for the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence include meeting all state and federal achievement benchmarks for no less than two consecutive years and meeting Governor Tim Kaine’s goals for achievement in elementary reading; enrolling students in Algebra 1 by eighth grade; enrolling high school students in college-level courses; offering advanced diplomas and career and industry certifications to be earned by high school students; and participating in the Virginia Preschool Initiative, if eligible. Schools and school divisions also earned points for performance measures such as the Governor’s Nutrition and Physical Activity scorecard.

What a terrific accomplishment!! I am so proud of your efforts and the dedication that everyone at Westfield demonstrates on a consistent basis in providing a top-notch education to our students. The school will receive a banner to hang and a signed resolution of commendation from Governor Kaine.
