Dear Westbriar Families,
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. Please take a moment to thank your child’s teacher for their work with your child. Teachers give of themselves each and every day to make a difference for their students.
This is a very busy time of the school year at Westbriar. Teachers and students are preparing for the Standards of Learning (SOL) tests that will begin later this month in grades 3-6.
Even though every classroom is full of activity, we are also beginning to think and plan for next year. The grade level teams in conjunction with our specialists, Mrs. Lonnett, Ms. Flaherty and I will be working this spring on tentative classroom assignments to be finalized in late August. The number of classes at each grade level is determined by Westbriar’s enrollment and the teacher-student ratios established by Fairfax County Public Schools.
As we make these placements, we consider many factors including individual student information, teacher input and social relationships. Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities and learning abilities. Due to the many factors we must consider in creating classroom placements, including the reassignment of some teachers to different grade levels, requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored.
Your insights into your child’s successes, strengths and needs are also important for us to consider. Please complete and return the (voluntary) survey sent home in the Tuesday folder. If you have information that you wish to share confidentially, you may write a separate letter addressed to me, or email me jcgoodwin@fcps.edu.
