A fantastic job all around; with 5 students eligible for competition at the National Leadership Conference in Orlando this June!!

 

 

Congratulations West Potomac Theatre Students!

West Potomac performed an abridged version of January’s RICHARD III at the Folger Theatre as part of Wednesday’s Secondary Schools Shakespeare Festival, and several students were recognized for their performances:

  • Sarah McKeown and Eliza Lore for Outstanding Death Scene
  • Emily Woods, Emily Key, Nell McKeown, and Maggie Solo for Outstanding Female Ensemble
  • Alex Wong for Outstanding Physical Characterization
  • Toby Mananzan for “Hamming It Up”

 

Congratulations West Potomac Yearbook!

  • Huge congratulations to last year's yearbook staff, and adviser Mel Mobley, for receipt of a prestigious Silver Crown from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The 2011 Predator is one of only 66 high school yearbook Gold or Silver Crown recipients in the country (five of which came from FCPS). Read More

 

West Potomac Takes State DECA Title and Heads for Nationals (Full Story)

 

 

Eugepae (Hooray!) for our Latin scholars.

  • West Potomac’s Latin 1 Certamen (which means “Latin Competition”) team, comprising Ben Keigwin, Susan Chatfield, and Kelly O’Meara, placed 4th in the Thomas Jefferson HS Certamen on February 25th.
  • Other Certamen team members include Oduro Agyei-Boateng, Eric Dove, Karl Litchford, Ethan Lyon, Ian Nakayama, Savannah Bishop, Mitchell Paradis, Henry Knight, Mischa Michael, and Matthew Taylor.

 

Congratulations to the following students who placed in the regional FBLA competition:

  • Dakota Rizzo placed 2nd in Website Development
  • Hind Tatby placed 3rd in Job Interview

Another Congratulations to Randa Mousa who ran for Vice President of the Region!

 

 

Congratulations to senior Emily Woods for finishing 3rd place at the Washington DC English Speaking Union Shakespeare Monologue Competition. 

  • Emily competed against 27 other students from all over the metro area with a soliloquy by Helena from All’s Well That Ends Well and her performance of Sonnet 61.  West Potomac was also represented by sophomore Sarah McKeown, who performed a monologue by Hermione from The Winter’s Tale and Sonnet 149.

Success for WP's Mock Trial Team!

  • West Potomac’s Mock Trial Team (coached by Shanna Daniel) competed against McLean High School on Saturday, March 3.  Our prosecution team successfully convinced a jury of students that the Defendant should be found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and be sentenced to 8 years in prison – in other words, a success for the team!  Please join me in congratulating Dagmawit Mallaf (attorney), Gabby Clark (attorney), Rebekah Read (attorney), Shana Marker (witness), Joanna Morgan (witness), and Margaret Gorguissian (witness) on their hard work and excellent presentation on Saturday. 

 

 

West Potomac Dance Team Makes Inaugural Visit to Nationals

    Congratulations to Nick Hyman and Bernice Kear who placed second and third respectively in the Poetry Slam at Reagan National Airport. 

Congratulations to Kevin Prescott- All State Violist!

    • Kevin competed Saturday against the best viola player in the state and ranked 13!

Congratulations to the West Potomac Debate Team!

    • (coached by Mercedes Frost) for their outstanding performance this weekend! They took the first and second place.

Congratulations Visual Art Student: Celeste Zabowski!

    • Celeste was awarded one of three $1000 Scholarships at the Scholastic Art Ceremony for her Gold Key Portfolio in Computer Graphics!
