Connections : Fairfax County Public Schools has launched a new database, Connections, that supplies links to more than 1,000 books supporting the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) in grades K-6.
Welcome to the Washington Mill Library Media Center! Our library is an inviting place where students can research topics, use the Internet and online databases, and check out books and magazines for their reading pleasure. Our Library Media Center has something for everyone.
Book Resource
Connections began as part of a grant-funded project to develop teaching strategies that can help homeless children. The information on the web site was originally developed by teachers from across Virginia working with Project HOPE-Virginia, coordinated by the College of William and Mary for the Virginia Department of Education. The database and book selection process are now maintained by FCPS.
FCPS teachers and librarians worked over the summer to revise and update the list; FCPS software engineers did the technical work to place the information into a searchable database and post the information on the Internet.
Connections has been designed to be user friendly and offers users the opportunity to search by keyword or by subject.
