Welcome to Waples Mill and our school web site. We look forward to greeting our returning families and meeting everyone newly enrolled to our school community. At Waples Mill, we take great pride in being a school that promotes learning opportunities for all adults and children who enter our building. We are excited to be offering Spanish Language classes to our first grade students and extending this learning throughout the school to increase our understanding of global communities and education.
We are fortunate that our school staff and families work diligently together to provide strong instructional and enrichment programs for our students. Working hand in hand with the county, we create authentic science experiences as we serve as a Conservation Demonstration site for the county. Students have opportunities to send Monarch butterflies to Mexico using Journey North’s Symbolic Migration, create wetlands and native tree nurseries, and participate in a shad restoration program.
Waples Mill is a community school that fosters respect and appreciation for all students. We serve kindergarten through sixth grade and offer special programs for preschool students with autism, students with physical and learning disabilities, and moderate to severe disabilities. These programs are all planned to expand students’ knowledge and promote individual interests and talents.
As we prepare our students for secondary school and a professional life, emphasis is placed on maximizing our instructional time and challenging students to be independent thinkers, problem solvers and responsible stewards of the community. Various technologies are used to enhance instruction and extend student performance in all content areas.
Waples Mill is a wonderful school where parents, community members and staff are true partners supporting our students’ growth. Take a walk through the hallways and classroom and you will continually see adults generously volunteering time to support students and teachers. We are proud of our community school and take pride in creating a stimulating environment that foster curiosity and creativity.
We welcome you to Waples Mill and if you have comments or questions please let us know.
Sincerely,
Linda Thetford
