The Sixth Grade incorporates the middle school concept of changing classes, while still recognizing that the students are in an elementary school environment. The sutdents rotate classes for each subject and adjust to five subjects with five different teachers. Math is divided into two levels, Compacted Math (a 6th and 7th gde course) and General Math.
Some 6th Grade highlights include:
Camp Highroad in October - a 2 1/2 day overnight camping trip which focuses on teambuilding, survival skills and nature habitats.
A class trip to one of Washington, DC's art galleries
Simile and Metaphor Day - students dress up as a simile or metaphoe and the audience guesses the figure of speech.
Pancake Breakfast - a pancake breakfast on the last day of school before Winter Break.
Pamplin Park - the spring trip to a Civil War Historical Site.
Trips to Franklin and Lanier Middle Schools as a "pre-orientation" to middle school.
The last week of 6th grade culminates in events such as: Student-run Follies, Civil War Storyteller, Class Party, and Promotion Ceremony.
