We are a Fairfax County program that offers a child-centered approach to learning for children ages 2-5, with developmental delays. Children are found eligible for the program following a free developmental screening conducted through Fairfax County’s Child Find. Waples Mill, we are committed to providing quality early childhood practices. We work collaboratively with parents, therapists, staff and community resources to address the unique and individual needs of the children and families we serve. We currently service children through our Non-Categorical classes and our Preschool Autism program.
Our preschool program models a play based approach to learning which allows children to safely and actively explore the world around them. The environment is set up to promote positive self-awareness and independence. The children engage in a variety of language rich developmentally appropriate activities. These activities focus on several areas of development including social-emotional, speech & language, and gross motor.
Waples Mill also has a large community inclusion program. This program invites typically developing children ages 3-5 to serve as positive role models. We hold an informational meeting every spring highlighting this wonderful opportunity for children and the application process.
