The Battle Over Bess

By: Ally

Once upon a time, there was a Prince named Richard. He was really demanding. He had a knight named Sir Mortimer. Prince Richard also had a maid named Bess. Prince Richard lived in a beautiful castle guarded by the one and only Sir Mortimer.

Everyday Bess cleans Prince Richard’s room and keeps him company. She also, tries to convince him that he should try to help the people in the village. They’re really poor.

Weeks went by; the Prince had wonderful conversations with Bess. The more they talked, the Prince wanted to talk more. After a while he finally fell completely in love with her. With that love the Prince was nice to his people and became a very kind man.

Everyday Sir Mortimer and Bess got a 45 minute break (that’s when the Prince takes a nap). They would meet in the forest and spend lots of time together. They did this everyday until one day when they went to the forest Sir Mortimer got down on his knees and asked, “Bess, will you marry me?”

Ummmm…..I’d love to, but I have already told Prince Richard that I’d think about over a couple days ago. Well…. I’d love a strong man. He’d be all mine!

So Prince Richard and Sir Mortimer decided to have a jousting match. Whoever won the match, won Bess.

The next morning, bright and early, the match began! At first, Prince Richard poked Sir Mortimer with his spear and then Sir Mortimer knocked Prince Richard off the horse, and the match was over.

While Sir Mortimer was celebrating with Bess, Prince Richard was lying half way dead on the ground. A beautiful woman ran out of the audience and took him to a doctor.

When the Prince awoke, the woman was over him.

          “Are you alright?” she asked.

“Sure I am. And what might your name be?” he asked.

 “Marian” she replied.

And right then they fell in love!

Then there existed King Richard and Queen Marian. Bess and Sir Mortimer. And a wonderful happily ever after!
