McLean Rotary and Provident Bank Promote Literacy
At Timber Lane

Kathleen Kee , a Timber Lane reading specialist, and Diane Payne , a reading recovery and Leveled Literacy Intervention instructor, attended the rotary meeting to accept the club's contributions and talk about the school's programs.
Both literacy efforts, the Lifelong Love of Reading program and the new Building a Community of Readers program , were spearheaded in part by the McLean Rotary Club.
The Lifelong Love program began in June 2007 as a partnership between McLean Rotary, Provident Bank (now M&T Bank) and the Timber Lane school. The program has since introduced around 250 children from kindergarten through second grade to dedicated literacy education.
The Community of Readers program, new this year, looks to use small group intensives in an early intervention system to accelerate literacy development for kindergarten through third grade.
Rotary District 7610 awarded the McLean club $1,500, underwritten by the Rotary Foundation, for the initiative.
