Fall Intersession Registration
September 22-25, 2009
Purpose
The Intersession Program offers classes in both reinforcement and enrichment for Timber Lane students. Intersession classes are scheduled during the fall, winter, and spring breaks and are held for one or two-week intervals. Participation is optional. Students may register for a maximum of two classes each time, or may choose to register for only one class, either AM or PM. Students may choose to take the weeks off for family time if they do not wish to attend Intersession.
Intersession classes are designed to offer additional instruction in the areas of language arts, math, technology, science, social studies, the arts, and physical education. The program is designed to offer alternative instruction with many hands-on experiences.
Reinforcement is offered on all grade levels in the areas of math, reading, and writing. Children needing reinforcement in one of these areas will be recommended by their teachers, and an invitation will accompany the Intersession brochure.
All classes are aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL).
Eligibility

Class Assignment Procedures
It is our desire to place every child in his/her first choice class. However in the event of popular classes the following will take place:
. Those who register on the first day will have an equal chance of getting their first choice.
. A class that fills beyond capacity will become a lottery class; students names will be randomly selected to remain in the class; every effort will be made to place students whose names are not drawn in their second choice class
. At the conclusion of each day of registration, any class that is full will be closed
Transportation
Transportation will be provided to students who normally ride the bus. The buses will run the normal routes before and after school. If your child attends ONLY an AM class, you will be responsible for picking him or her up after lunch at 12:45 (11:30 on Mondays). Transportation must be provided to school if a child is attending only a PM class. The child should arrive at 12:45 for an afternoon class (11:30 on Mondays).
Meals
. Breakfast will be served during Intersession
. Lunch will be served on Tuesday-Friday
. NO LUNCH on Mondays
. Please provide a snack for you child on Monday
. Please be sure to provide your child with a lunch money Tuesday-Friday.
. A child may bring his/her own lunch or purchase a lunch at school.
SACC Program
SACC (School Age Child Care) will be available during Intersession. The Program will operate as it does for the regular school day. This will include before and after school. Only students presently enrolled in SACC may use the service during Intersessions. Please communicate with the SACC director at 703-573-3416, so she will know who will be attending Intersession and who will be taking time off from school.
Attendance
The courses are designed as self contained two week units of study. Students are expected to attend the entire Intersession. Please call the school if your child is going to be absent from the Intersession program.
Discipline
Excellent Timber Lane behavior is expected during the Intersession Program. Students who interfere with the learning process of others, or who disrupt the teaching will be referred to the Intersession Coordinator for disciplinary action. If necessary, students may lose the privilege of attending the Intersession Program. Intersession is optional and students must exhibit behaviors that are conducive to the learning environment. Students will be dismissed from the Intersession program if they violate any rules listed in the Students Responsibilities and Rights booklet. Behaviors that disrupt the learning environment will not be tolerated during Intersession.
If you have any questions please contact Kim Cook, Intersession Coordinator, at 703-206-5394 or Kncook1@fcps.edu.
