Advanced Academic Center (GT)

Linda Simon, Gifted and Talented Resource Specialist

Timber Lane is fortunate to have all four levels of Gifted and Talented services right in our own building! In addition, we have the Young Scholars program in grades K-2. For more information on the Levels of Service or the Young Scholars Initiative, please go to the FCPS web site for Gifted and Talented Programs, http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/gt/.

Here are the four levels of Gifted and Talented services:

Level I-Model Thinking Lessons in critical and creative thinking for all students.

Level II-Differentiated instruction in grades K-6.

Level III-School-based GT program for identified students in grades 3-6.

Level IV-School-based GT Center program for eligible students.

Young Scholars-Promising students in grades K-2 are given additional opportunities to develop their thinking and learning potential.

We started our school-based GT Center program with one third grade class in August, 2005. In 2006-2007, we will have third and fourth grade GT Center classes; in 2007-2008, we will add a fifth grade class, and in 2008-2009 the sixth grade class will join the GT Center.

To learn more about the school-based Gifted and Talented Center program, please consult the attached slide show presentation given to parents on May 16.
