| Northern Virginia Math League: The Northern Virginia Math League contests are offered each month
from October to March. Students are encouraged to try the each 6 problem
contest and learn more about problem solving strategies in mathematics.
Students can attend one or all six of the monthly contests. |

are required to pick up

is an opportunity for everyone to participate, even if you are not
a performer, you can learn about all the non-performing aspects of
Theatre like props, lights, scenery, etc.
We also spend some time on exploring the film industry.

| Foreign Language Club: We seek to familiarize students
with aspects of the French and Spanish cultures. We hope to provide a venue for the exploration
and discovery of the student’s interests. We will be cooking foreign fare, watching
foreign films (subject to parent and county approval, of course),
viewing travel videos, having in depth history lessons, learning songs/dances
(both traditional and modern), viewing art, etc.

| Recycling: The Recycling Club takes responsibility
for modeling earth-friendly living here at Thoreau. Last year we recycled paper and cardboard
every Thursday afternoon. 8th
graders who join the Recycling Club earn hours each week toward their
community service requirement for Civics class.
We provide kids with a place to learn responsibility and accountability,
as well as a hands-on experience of helping our community one trashcan
at a time! |
