Thoreau MS Transition Calendar for 2010

Rising 7th, 8th & 9th Grade Transition Calendar 2009-10

Madison High School’s Curriculum Night will be held on February 3, 2010 from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M (Snow date 2.10.10). This program will provide parents and students, grades 8 – 11, an opportunity to learn about academic classes, elective classes, and course requirements that are available to your student. Teachers and departments from Madison, as well as the FCPS Academies, will have displays and information throughout the building (maps will be provided) to provide you and your student with an excellent opportunity to find out about the different curricular offerings and requirements, and to ask questions about course sequence, course content, and activities. Counselors will be available to provide information about guidance services and SOL test requirements. The Career Center will also be open

SUMMER ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITY

The University of Virginia Curry School of Education announces the 31st year of the Summer Enrichment Program for rising fifth through rising eleventh grade students.  This summer residential program aims to provide academic enrichment for gifted and/or high ability students in a stimulating atmosphere encouraging social and academic interaction. During each twelve day session students stay in dorms and enjoy the on grounds experience in the University of Virginia setting.

The application can be found online with a deadline of February 15, 2010. Tuition for the 2010 summer program is $1100 with a $25 application fee. Financial aid is available based on need.

Applications are completed online through the University of Virginia Curry School of Education website at: http://curry.edschool.virginia.edu/sep. Information about the goals of the program and descriptions of the classes in the Junior and Senior programs can be found on the website.
