Colonial Day at Terraset
by Jessica K. & Emma M., grade 4
The fourth grade students dressed up as Colonial people and put on a show for Colonial Day. Before the show, we made bonnets and three-cornered hats. We made minin games like ball-in-a-cup, paper sculptures, tops, and we wrote with quill pens. During the olay, they sang and danced to different types of Colonial songs and dances. They acted out songs and dances that they made. They also played instruments to some of the songs. We danced the Virginia Reel, a dance that Colonial people did. To end the day, we played Colonial games like leapfrog, jacks, ring toss, marbles, bean-bag toss, and bowling. We came back at night and performed the show for our parents and siblings. |

The fourth grade had Colonial Day and girls had to wear dresses and bonnet, and aprons while the boys had to wear knickers, white shirts, and three-cornered hats. We also danced the Virginia reel. In Colonial days they didn’t have electricity or technology therefore the ladies learned to prepare the food, such as squash corn and potatoes, by open fire. We performed several plays and sang several songs:
After that we played games that were from back then. For one game we had to get a cup and tie a knot on a yarn string and then you make a ball out of tin foil. After that we learned how to use a feather to write in calligraphy. After that we preformed for the Kindergarteners, first, and second graders at 2:30. Karen and Paige helped set up for the concert at night. The concert was fun, and the parents really liked it. At the end it was funny because Soldier, Soldier was at the end, and Jailene slapped Jameson at the end. |
