Technology Tools Enhance Learning at Sunrise Valley

The Sunrise Valley School Plan includes these three Global Technology Goals:

  1. Expand home-school communication by using FCPS Blackboard class site
  2. Implement the FCPS Elementary Laptop Initiative teacher training in order to enhance instruction and increase student use of electronic resources and tools
  3. Plan school-wide move to Windows PC environment, replacing existing Mac computers

Sunrise Valley's Computer Lab is used by all classes, equipped with 30 student computers, color laser printer, LCD projector, and interactive SMART Board. Computer Lab

SVES classrooms have at least four classroom computers (for grades K-3rd), while upper grade classrooms (4th-6th grades) have at least one classroom Windows computer.

All classrooms are equipped with a LCD projector and large screen so that students can easily view and participate in instructional lessons utilizing technology.

Classroom Computers

In addition, classes have access to five Mobile Dell Wireless Laptop Labs (each containing 16 student laptops) for instructional use right in the classroom.

Students have laptops right on their classroom desk for hands-on learning in all subject areas.

Every teacher has a laptop connecting to the classroom LCD projector to display on a large screen.

Fourteen SMART Boards are located in pod areas, the Computer Lab, and classrooms. These interactive white boards allow an entire classroom of students to view instructional materials, as well as participate in the touch screen interactive learning tools.

Third grade students review Ancient Greece and Rome in the Computer Lab using the Smart Board and Mrs. Pieruccini's Jeopardy Game format filled with student-created review questions. Smart Board in lab
Parent technology volunteers regularly assist classes in the Computer Lab and/or in the classroom. Sunrise Valley students are very fortunate to have such patient talented parents willing to help them learn at school while using technology learning tools.
